Frequently Asked Questions

Individual sessions:
Our rate is currently $140-$175 per 50 minute virtual session.
-
We currently offer a sliding scale based on the economic circumstances and lived experiences of my clients. The payment options are from $140-$175. No proof of income is necessary, rather we simply ask potential clients to have a conversation with us to determine what tier of payment makes sense for them based on their individual circumstances.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss a sliding scale rate.
We also can assist victims of sexual assault and victims of other crimes that have occurred in the state of Pennsylvania.
If you have experienced sexual abuse/assault in the state of Pennsylvania, you are likely eligible to receive Pennsylvania Victim's Compensation (VCAP) funding ($5,000-10,000) towards the cost of therapy services- no police report needed. If you have experienced another type of crime in the state of PA, and have filed a police report, you are likely also eligible for VCAP funding. Please reach out to us for more information.

Juniper Tree Counseling is not currently “in-network” with any insurance providers, meaning we cannot accept insurance directly at this time. Our clients pay by keeping a card on file which is charged after every session. We can then provide what’s called a “superbill” which clients can submit directly to their insurance companies for out of network reimbursement.
-
Clients pay the whole cost of the session up front. Then, if eligible with their insurance plan, they can submit the superbills for the therapy sessions directly to their insurance companies (typically through the insurance company client portal), and may be reimbursed a percentage of the fee for the sessions in the superbill. Typically clients must first meet their deductible (a dollar amount you pay before the insurance will cover any costs) in order to be eligible for out of network reimbursements. Individual deductibles can vary widely.
-
Clients may call the member services phone number that’s usually on the physical copy of their insurance cards.
-
Insurance companies tend to dictate the terms of treatment (length of sessions, number of sessions per year allowed, etc.). They can also deny claims, thereby interfering with treatment. At Juniper Tree Counseling, we strive to treat each person who works with me as a full human being, honoring their complicated needs and unique concerns. We value and commit to providing you the best services without arbitrary restrictions and parameters.

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost.
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
If you believe you’ve been wrongly billed or for more information about your rights under Federal law, you may visit: www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
